How to Install an External Hard Drive in Your Laptop
Step 1 : First you need to make sure the hd drive you want to use is compatable with your Dell Inspiron 6000 Battery. Most laptops take a SATA hd drive and are 2.5″ so be sure that is what you need.
Step 2 :Next you need to format the portable hd drive that you want to put in your Latitude D620 battery. They usually have some security software or junk on them that is not needed and can prevent it from working properly once installed.
Step 3 :With the new hd drive formatted you can now take out the old hd drive from your Thinkpad R40 battery Flipping the laptop over it will usually have an access panel that can be unscrewed using a phillips screw driver exposing the laptop hd drive.
Step 4 : Open the cover and you should see your pavilion ZV6000 battery hd drive has a bracket holding it in place. Takes the screws out of the bracket. It also has a plug or two connecting the hd drive to the laptop. Go ahead and unplug them. Now you can remove the old or bad hd drive.
Step 5 : Grab your new hd drive and pry the plastic cover off. This can be difficult but if done carefully the case can be reused to put your old hd drive in. Once the cover sleeve is off you will need to take the screws off the metal housing and unplug the connections to the housing itself.
Step 6 : Putting your new hd drive in the laptop is relativing the same as taking it out. Plug in the connections, secure it with the mounting bracket, and put the access panel back on your Latitude D600 battery . With the laptop finished all that needs to be one is to insert the driver cds and operating system. Once that is done installing you should have a fresh start on your laptop.
Step 7 :Once you Laptop battery is up and running you can put the old drive in the housing you had the new one in and format the drive to be used. So you really didnt lose a drive, you just changed it.
